BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Charlottesville-area builder Jayson Collier of Summit Custom Homes has been selected for the fourth year to be part of the exclusive Southern Living Custom Builder Program.

Collier is one of just 100 builders chosen for the eighteenth annual builder program.  Each year, Southern Living carefully selects members based on their reputation among local businesses and consumers; strength of presence in their respective markets; superior quality and attention to detail; innovative style, and other criteria. Builders are required to re-apply each year and are evaluated by Southern Living to assure they have met their standards.

“We are very proud to have Jayson Collier back for this year’s program,” said Kristen Payne, Executive Director, Southern Living Homes Group.  “The Custom Builder Program includes some of the finest builders from the Southeast, and Jayson is one of the best in Virginia.  We can’t wait to see what he does this year.”

A third-generation builder, Jayson Collier founded Summit Custom Homes of Virginia in 2003 along with his father, Jayme Collier.  Together, they bring over 40 years of experience in the building industry as well as a lifetime love of custom home construction in Virginia.  Summit built and sold two unique Southern Living homes in Old Trail Village in Albemarle County last year, and is currently working on construction of another 5 homes across the Commonwealth from Wintergreen to Lake Anna, Richmond, and the Northern Neck.

 About Southern Living
Southern Living (www.southernliving.com), the premier lifestyle and entertaining magazine of the South, reaches more than 16 million readers each month and enjoys a circulation of 2.8 million. Published 12 times a year by a subsidiary of Birmingham, Alabama-based Southern Progress Corporation, Southern Living celebrates the heart of Southern life.

Summit Custom Homes is excited to announce that we’ve recently joined the builder program for Woodhouse Timber Frame Co. We’ll be servicing Charlottesville and the better portion of Central Virginia as a Woodhouse builder.  Adding to the already strong offering of Linwood Homes and The Southern Living Custom Builder Program, Summit will now be able to offer full design/build capability for heirloom quality, custom timber frame homes.  Woodhouse specializes in solid timber frame packages with old world mortise and tenon joinery and they offer an exceptional package at a highly competitive price.  We’ll be breaking ground on the Southpeak floor plan in the next couple weeks.  We also plan to throw a “timber raising” open house/party once the frame is in place so let us know if you care for an official invite.

We’re incredibly excited to announce that Summit has recently merged operations with Tolbert Contracting of Unionville, VA. This merger allows us to expand our product offering to include Log Homes along with our current Timber Frame and Post & Beam offering.

Nathan Tolbert brings a tremendous amount of Log Home construction experience to our company. He will be leading our team of project managers that currently oversee operations throughout Central Virginia including newly expanded operations on the Northern Neck. Please join us in welcoming Nathan to the team here at Summit Custom Homes!

Summit Custom Homes is proud to announce that we’ll be opening operations in Fredericksburg with this exciting new project! We’ve worked tirelessly with the owner this past year to build this home on paper and now we’re ready for groundbreaking.

This conventionally framed floorplan boasts the  interior and exterior timber frame accents that have come to serve as our trademarks.  If you’re looking for green, this house will have it! From the airtight, expanding foam envelope to the geothermal heat pump system, we’ve taken great care to incorporate many of today’s most sought after green building techniques.  This popular floor plan has been featured in a number of fine home building publications over the years and we’re very excited to add it to our portfolio!  Please contact the office if you care for a tour or a spec sheet on this exciting floor plan.

The recent break in winter weather has allowed us  to break ground in Old Trail and, as of this week, we have walls in place!  Over the next several weeks we’ll be bringing to life this fantastic Southern Living plan that blends traditional southern vernacular with the rustic timber accents we’ve grown to love.  Please visit our website for plans and pricing on this great home that’s scheduled for a June delivery.

We are very excited to announce that Summit will soon proceed with the construction of this Southern Living plan in Old Trail Village.  As a member of the exclusive Southern Living Custom Home Builder program, this project serves as Summit’s first step in transcending the pages of Southern Living magazine into the Old Trail setting.  With this project, we will provide a reasonably priced home while maintaining the custom touches and quality finishes that our customers demand.  High efficiency mechanical systems, solid wood custom cabinetry and quality floor finishes are just a few of our standard specifications that will continue in the Old Trail setting.  A spring 2010 completion is expected. Please contact our office if you would like more information on this exciting project.

First-Time-Home-Buyers

The First Time Home-Buyer Tax Credit has done a tremendous amount to kick start the ailing housing market.  With it’s looming expiration on December 1st, many industry and government officials are pushing for an extension.  Interestingly enough, they are also pushing for an expansion of the program to a $15,000 credit that’s available to all home-buyers!  Will they get it? Appraisal Issues

If you’ve participated in any real estate transaction over the last 6 months, you’re probably aware of the radical shift that has taken place in the appraisal world.  The flood of distressed properties has made it increasingly difficult for appraisers to determine fair market values for the neighboring non-distressed properties.  This affects those looking to purchase existing homes or build custom homes and need to pursue bank financing.  Industry groups are finally beginning to realize the role this issue is playing in further delaying a true housing recovery and it appears reform may be on the way.  Click here for the full story…
